FAMILIES
Family-of-origin dynamics affect how we think about ourselves, how we relate to others and how we form adult relationships. Therapy can help you unpack and understand your family-of-origin dynamics so you can develop tools to replace impulsive or automatic ways of being in the world with an active, choice-derived approach.

parenting |
There is no one-size-fits-all approach to parenting. Therapy can help you reassert your values and apply them to your parenting, in turn increasing your confidence and reducing your anxiety, guilt and fear of judgement. You'll identify the way in which you were parented and how it influences your parenting style to help you decide which parts you want to keep and which parts you want to change. And you'll gain support in developing self-care strategies so that you can parent with energy, enthusiasm and reduced stress. Part of our work can be to understand normal developmental stages and identify whether your child might need extra support.

step-parenting & second families |
Stepfamilies do not function in the same way as first families, which can make re-partnering more challenging. Difficulties can arise for a number of reasons such as conflicts of loyalty, opposed disciplinary and financial values, reactions to step-children that differ from children of the first-family, and visitation that interrupts both parents' and children's routine. By working with a stepfamily informed therapist, you can understand the unique dynamics of your stepfamily and how subsystems within the stepfamily operate to strengthen both yourself and your place within it.
